This is a question you will probably often ask yourself.
You have posted or shared an article with your network in LinkedIn and wondering if anyone actually saw it.
You don’t see any likes or comments….. just crickets!
Hello, anyone there?
Say hello to the digital voyeurs.
You are probably one yourself. One of the thousands of people daily, who just scan through their feed, reading bits of pieces, clicking on a click or two, BUT not actually liking or commenting.
Now we want likes and comments because they measure engagement and more engagement equals more eyeballs seeing your content.
So much focus is put on these vanity metrics because that is the stuff we can see easily. But it doesn’t tell the full story.
Because it doesn’t actually tell us who is looking, how much they consumed and who is truly interested in what you have to say. You could argue that when you dive deeper into the data you can see some of that information but most people don’t. At a glance, we want to feel validated and know that people like us.
You have no doubt done the same thing as you are scrolling. I know I have! There are many reasons why someone doesn’t like or comment at the moment and it is OK as they have seen you, even if you don’t see them (sounds kinda creepy I know).
Don’t be scared of the digital voyeurs. I actually like them. I have gained clients who I have never interacted with, or seen comments from but who have reached out and said, “I have been reading your content for several months and it resonates with me.”
That is all the validation you need.
Remember that LinkedIn is a long game. It will not give you instant satisfaction after a few posts. Don’t get disheartened, keep at it and chat with me if you need some help creating a content strategy that will get you in front of more eyeballs.
