What is your digital why?
You might have heard speakers and industry experts talk about understanding your why when it comes to being in business. Why do you do what you do? What is your purpose or why?
I often ask clients the same thing when they come to me and say they want to implement digital or social media in their business. Why? The answers are often scary as many business owners and recruiters don’t know why they should be adding digital to the mix. Common responses are “because the boss said so, or my competitors do it, or my best mate said I should be doing it”
When you do anything in digital you need to consider your why? What is your digital why?
- Why do you need it?
- Why & how will it impact your business?
- Why do you think It is important now?
- Why do you think it will make a difference?
- Why do you want to make this change?
There HAS to be set objectives to integrating digital into your current business practices, processes, and marketing. If your why is to become more efficient, then the channels and tools you use will ned to change to suit your overall ‘why’ objective.
As Simon Sinek has spoken about across the world – start with you why? What is the purpose, cause or belief that has inspired you to start on your digital journey?
Your why might be based on the fact that if you don’t implement digital you will be left behind and potentially lose a lot of business. It might be that you need to grow the business and drive more leads and digital is the most effective way of doing that for you. Whatever the reason, be clear on ‘your digital why’ when you take your next steps.
A good strategist or digital manager will ask you this question up front so be prepared to answer it. By knowing your ‘digital why’ you will also be clearer on what action needs to be taken and save yourself time & money in the process.
Now it is time for you to go and articulate your digital why?
